Gettysburg. The battle that still to this day remains the biggest battle to take place on American soil.
Gettysburg Hidden Figures and Events Leading to Union Victory
As my research continues, there are what seems to be an endless amount of people and events that led to the Union victory at Gettysburg. In the book "Lost Triumph: Lee's Real Plan at Gettysburg and Why It Failed," by Tom Carhart, he goes into detail about an event known as Pickett's Charge which ultimately resulted in the success of the Union. As for hidden figures, people like Tillie Pierce, helped aid Union soldiers who were wounded in battle as well as gave them food and shelter to help them continue the battle. Another figure who was lost in the history books, is George Custer who has been criticized by historians for being hot headed and having the personality of a gambler. A side from the critics, he led Union forces to charge Confederates back when they needed to the most. These were some of many events that were involved with Gettysburg, but their heroic acts should not be undermined. With this research, it has been concluded that the best way to present it...
