Gettysburg Book
A book that is located at the Miramar College library is, "Lost Triumph, Lee's Real Plan At Gettysburg-and Why It Failed" by Tom Carhart. The book's title speaks for itself but the main event that Carhart talks about is that Lee's offensive plan that is known as "Pickett's Charge," drastically failed. The original plan was to have General George Pickett's troops go down the center, have General Richard Ewell's troops go to the right side and have General "Jeb" Stuart's troops roll around the back to corner the union. The main reason this plan failed according to the book is because the Union stood their ground from the back side and they instigated a premature fight on the right side so everything did not go as planned. This book raises the question, is this in fact the pivotal moment in the battle as well as the war? Also, why was the best formation for the Union army in the shape of a fish hook?
